Shortly after midnight, our department and first-alarm companies were alerted for a building fire on Fremont Street. The caller reported flames coming from the roof of a building.
A firefighter arrived on location confirming a fire at the Santa Anna Italian-American Club on Dayton Street. Based upon this report, Chief 65 requested the Working Fire Dispatch - re-alerting all companies and adding an ambulance and air cascade unit on the assignment. An additional engine was also requested.
Engine 65-2 arrived to begin extinguishing the fire and established Incident Command. Chief 65 then arrived and assumed Command. Three handlines were placed in service, Montco Engine 68 provided water supply, Ladder 65 and Ladder 63 were used to ladder the roof.
An additional Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) was requested from Limerick Fire Department, but later cancelled.
One firefighter was evaluated on scene after a fall but did not require transport to the hospital.
The fire was declared under control after about 45 minutes. The last fire unit cleared the scene after about 13 hours.
The cause of this fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal's office with assistance from other agencies.
An engine from Ridge Fire Company and tower from Paoli Fire Company were transferred to Phoenixville to assist with any additional emergencies while our personnel and neighboring companies were operating at this fire. |
