At 7:50 AM, our Deputy Chief was behind a trash truck when there was an equipment failure on the truck resulting in a large amount of smoke. The truck pulled over and it was found the truck was on fire and there was a large volume of hydraulic fluid leaking. Deputy 65 contacted county communications to alert our department of this incident.

Engine 65, Utility 65-2, and Fire Police responded to the incident. The fire went out prior to arrival of fire apparatus. The hydraulic fluid leak was spread over several hundred feet on W. Bridge Street. The public works department was contacted to assist with fluid control. Firefighters used absorbent pads and granules to dam the flow of fluid along the curb while assisting with spreading sand on the roadway. A representative from the hauler contacted an environmental cleanup company to respond to remediate the spill.

Assistance on-scene was provided by Borough of Phoenixville Public Works, Phoenixville Police and Fire Police from
Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company.

Emergency crews cleared the scene in just under two hours.
