At 2:56 AM, our department was alerted for a house fire on the unit block of Franklin Avenue. The callers reported a pickup truck had crashed into a utility pole and houses, they smelled gas and saw black smoke coming from the truck.

Chief, Deputy Chief, Engine, Rescue and both MICUs responded to the incident. Firefighters arrived to find the occupant out of the vehicle, with no fire. There was a sheared utility pole leaning against a house with electrical wires down, also damage to a few porches and three natural gas meters. The assignment was scaled back and some of the mutual aid units were recalled prior to their arrival. PECO electrical and gas divisions were contacted to respond to the scene. PECO arrived to secure natural gas service to the affected houses and secure the downed wires.

Firefighters used a structural shoring strut to temporarily capture the load of the porch roof while the vehicle was removed. Crews stayed on scene until after the truck was removed by Abel Brothers Towing. Crews cleared the scene after about two hours.
