Shortly after noon on Thursday, our department and first-alarm companies were alerted for a house fire on First Avenue. An occupant reported smoke coming from the basement.
Phoenixville Police arrived to confirm smoke coming from the basement with no visible fire. Firefighters arrived to investigate the source of the smoke and found a malfunctioning oil furnace. The assignment was held to PFD and the engine from UPT Fire & Emergency Services which had already arrived on location. The apparatus still en route to the scene were recalled. Firefighters secured power to the furnace and used a positive-pressure fan to clear smoke and carbon monoxide from the residence. The attached neighboring house was also checked for carbon monoxide.
