At 9:14 AM, our department and first-alarm companies were alerted for a building fire on the 200 block of Airy Street. The caller reported they see smoke and a fire detector is going off.
Chief, Engine, Rescue, Utility and MICU 65-2 responded on the assignment. Engine 65 arrived to find smoke showing from a three-unit row home. A Working Fire Dispatch was transmitted bringing a Rescue from Royersford, an Engine from Valley Forge and a second MICU. A tower from Lionville was added to cover other aerials which were out-of-service.
Firefighters found smoke inside the center unit with no visible fire. They opened up the common wall between neighboring units and roof to locate the fire. The fire began in the basement and had traveled void spaces in the wall. Mutual aid crews assisted with fire suppression, overhaul and opening up the roof. The fire was placed under control in about 50 minutes.
One firefighter was injured with a minor hand laceration and transported to Phoenixville Hospital.
Chester County Fire Marshal's Office investigated the cause of the fire. The American Red Cross provided emergency housing assistance. The final unit cleared the scene after about four hours.
A tower from Ringing Hill Fire Company and engine from Lower Providence Fire Department were transferred to Phoenixville to assist with any additional emergencies while our personnel and neighboring companies were operating at this fire. |
